One Another Loss

A person took his last breath on the eve of Diwali,
The day when everyone was celebrating
His family was grieving a loss
And the culprit was heaving a sigh of relief.

Around 70 per cent of deaths are in the working-age group of 18 to 45 years old while India accounts for 415 deaths per day in road accidents according to an article in TOI dated feb 13, 2021.

The person who lost his life was neither my friend nor a family member not even an old acquaintance. I didnt know him until I saw one of my friend whatsapp status on 9th of November with a message “To live in the hearts of those we love is not to die. You’ll always be remembered with love and respect”.

I couldn’t stop myself but to message my friend and ask what had happened?

He told me briefly about the accident and I had many questions so I asked. The replies that I got were shocking which has made me to write about it.

Brief about what had happened:

“he met with an accident few days ago while he was on his way back home with his brother who was riding the bike. The other guy who collided his bike with a car was drunk. He died with hemorrhage and broken ribs, his brother is alive with injuries and fractures”

I won’t get into politics, the judiciary system or the police here. The thing that shocked me the most was the reply of that drunk man, the reply that he gave to the demised person’s family,

he said, “if the boy couldn’t be brought back to normal health, why do you intend to destroy my future. I’ll pay any amount you ask as a compensation to compromise“.

And I was shocked after hearing it because this drunk man doesn’t know the depth of the situation here and I want to point couple of things straight away to anyone who reads it:

First thing, I don’t know who that person is or how educated is he? But by what he said, he seems to be an educated brainless imprudent person who hasn’t understood the situation .

POINT 1: The family is not asking for a monetary compensation Mister- you JUST CANNOT compensate a family for the human life lost. Maybe you won’t understand this because you are numb to all these things as you are a living robot without any emotions. To me you seem to be a person who has escaped this kind of situation many times and will continue doing the same thing.

Understand this – you can’t place any amount on a human life, whoever you are, how much ever balance you got in your bank account. You just can’t do that.

POINT 2: “How ever much is done, the situation will never change” . The boy cant be brought back to life with your monetary compensation.

POINT 3: When you said, “why do you intend to destroy my future” then Mister let me tell you, you are in this situation because of yourself.

Why don’t people like you think before doing anything, after things are done you show money and power and voila you are out of the situation.

YOU HAVE ALREADY DESTORYED SOMEONE else’s life and if people like you don’t get punished, you will keep on destroying “N” no. of lives.

You will only understand when you lose someone close to you. When someone offers you 1 billion rupees over your dead child but it will be too late then.

And all this just makes me wonder, how come these people get a peacefull sleep at night after knowing a family lost their child because of them. Well, making them understand will take one more life.

This guy is still out there.
He will do the exact same mistake and pay money to come out of a similar situation.
And he is not the only one with money or power. There are plenty of people like him on the road right now.

Thus, it becomes necessary to take our safety in our hands.

So, I request each and everyone who is gonna read this blog PLEASE WEAR A HELMET no matter if you are riding a bike or sitting on the pillion seat.
Please don’t drink & drive and don’t let your friends do the same. You are not only putting your life at risk but someone else’s life as well. In both cases it’s very unfair.

Let’s pray for the victims family. We don’t know them but we can still have them in our prayers.
