Hi Everyone! Hope you all are doing great.
It’s been a long time since I posted anything on the blog.
I have been really busy for past few months and I am trying to find my way back to J2H again. So recently, I happened to participate in an Elocution Contest conducted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and the topic chosen by me was “Fulfilling our Dreams- Be Independent”.
I would like to share the speech that I had prepared for the contest. The speech delivered might not have been how I expected it to be but atleast I tried and that’s more than enough.
“A very good afternoon to everyone present here.
My name is Anoop Yadav and my topic is Fulfilling our dreams- be independent.
You all would agree with me when I say we all are different and unique. We all think differently as we all have been brought up in a different environment which has lead us to have different experiences and that’s what makes us unique.
Being unique means each one of you present here would have different dreams which is personal to you in some way or another. Your dreams can be as small as being happy, living a peaceful life, inspiring others or even making a difference.
Your dream need not be the same as Sharma uncle’s son’s dream. The same Sharma uncle son that you have been compared with since the very beginning.
You dream can be as unqiue as you are. Even if you happen to have the same dream as X& Y person.Remember the path for each one of you would be different.
So, in the last one week, I had spoken to many people about their dreams and I would like to share few responses that I had received .
One person said having a dream is good but whats the point of dreaming when it won’t be fulfilled. Then I spoke with my watchman uncle. He is around 58 years old and is from Nepal. So, when I asked him whats his dream he said his dream is to go back to his country, stay with his family. Retire and have a peaceful life. That was his dream. Then there was one office lady who said, “my dream is to provide education to my children because I couldn’t get one. I want my kids to be educated and have a job”. That was her dream, a mothers dream.
And at that time I realised education does open many doors of opportunity. When you are educated your dreams can be unlimited, infinite without any boundary but a person who was unfortunate to get basic education. Think about him , do you think his dreams would ever be unlimited without any boundary. He might be putting in more no. of hours in his job but will he be getting the same results? I don’t think so.
There were many people that I had spoken to and they didn’t have a dream. They didn’t have a response. Or maybe they did, they were just too afraid to share it with me, thinking they will be mocked for it.
Now you imagine, you go to a tea stall and askthe person what is his dream. And he says, he wants to become prime minister of this country. You will laugh right.
But remember our prime minister is none other than that person.
One more interesting fact about dream is-Unless and until you achieve your dream and become great in your field people won’t be there to support you if your dream is unconventional.
Conventional dreamers get support from the beginning but unconventional dreamers start getting support once they achieve it and become known for it.
Having a dream adds meaning to life. When you have a dream there is always something that you will be looking forward. Thats why having a dream is important.
- The first step in fulfilling the dream is to identify your dream. we need to be clear on what it is that we want!
- Goal-setting is a critical step in fulfilling your dreams because you can track where you’re headed and how far you’ve come. The more specific the goals, the more likely you are to fulfill your dream. I am sure you would have heard this quote, by Benjamin Franklin, “If You Fail to Plan, You Are Planning to Fail”.
- Visualization- Visualise you dream. Don’t let your dreams fade away.Have it in front of you. Remind yourself every morning.
- The most important step in fulfilling of our dream is to take action. You need to prepare yourself to put in the right amount of work to achieve your goals. Pursuing your dreams requires hard work and motivation.
The problem with execution is, people tend to execute the plan one day, two day and they start expecting the result to flow in immediately. That’s not how things work. It takes time. Dream is achieved with perseverance, patience and hard work.
We all want to be in the front page of the magazine but we don’t want to work for it. We want to be on the big screens but we don’t know what goes behind the scenes.
So, lets understand the steps with an example.
Many of you will agree when I say, that our current dream is to clear CA Final in first attempt. Some of you might also have a bigger dream to get AIR. That’s the dream right. But what are you doing now in making sure that your dream will be fulffilled.
Are you taking any actions? Have you started your CA Final classes?
Until and unless you have made a detailed plan for your goal, there is a high chance you will not achieve it. Just having a dream and goal in not sufficient. You need to plan for the goal.
As I initially said, unconventional dreamer don’t get the support when they start walking towards their dream. Being independent, having faith in yourself and in your abilility when no one is there with you is very critical. Being independent can mean different things to different people. But when we think about independent we think of financial independennce.
Financial independence basically means that you control your income and expenditure and you are not answerable to anybody. Financial uncertainty is frightening, but independence is empowering.
Are you someone who needs advices from someone whenever you are in trouble. Are you someone who doesn’t let your thought be persuaded by others. Do you have your own way of thinking, are you independent in that?
Also Being independent doesn’t equate to being selfish. Putting yourself first shouldn’t have negative connotations. Being independent increases happiness, promotes a sense of belonging, gives you a sense of purpose, and increases your life satisfaction.
As per the society mans are supposed to be independent. They are the one who provides for the family. Personally I feel that women should also be independent. They should have that freedom to decide for themselves or even continue working after marriage if she wants to. Financial independence is equally important for man and woman because life is very uncertain.
Fulfilling your dreams, gives you that independence.
At last I would like to say, Dreams do not come true by just dreaming about it. Dreams come true with consistent hard work and patience. You are given with a choice every single day and remember there is always something that we are doing which is either taking us towards our dream or away from it.
I would like to end my speech with a famous quote by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. Dreams are not what you see in sleep, dream are something that doesn’t let you sleep.
So come on everyone, lets wake up from that dream and do somethingabout it.
Thank you so much everyone”.
The contest was fun, fully a learning experience. Just to hear other contestant speak made me learn a lot more and hopefully I will do better next time. The weird part was all the bold sentences that you see above, I had highlighted them in yellow colour while practicing my speech but sadly those parts were the part that I forgot on the stage.
The competition happened on 24th of April and I thought of sharing this speech here on the same day but I just didn’t feel like sharing it as I felt I wasn’t doing justice. In my speech I had spoken about consistency, hard work, goals and I realised I was not doing that when it came to this blog (didnt want to sound like an hypocrite) but here I am taking one step at a time.
